Thoughts on "the new road"

What happens to the cultural aspects created by our connection to the modern vehicle and its transport platforms, when autonomous systems become ubiquitous? The main purpose of the first mass produced car and the most recently design Tesla or Honda are the same despite their vast difference in technology, economic viability & appeal: they provide an ability for people to take themselves from one place to another. Thus, vehicles offer a physical mobility solution to the masses. The cultural impacts of these technologies have impacted all parts of life - pop culture, dating culture, familial bonding, legal structures (drivers license), and entire ecosystems of companies and industries. The infrastructure for a transition from user to autonomous vehicles exists, lowering the barriers to entry to equal technological advancement and societal approval.

When the transition takes place, what happens to these important past times? The existence of infrastructure will speed up state-transition, likely too fast to develop a firm understanding of the society impact. Both direct and tangential will be effected without time to react appropriately.
